Well, what have I been up to in the music making…
Back to square one, that is where….
Why? Well I happened to listen to a couple of albums recently that made me realise I needed to up my game.
One was the new VNV Nation album and then the Blackcarburning album.
I love writing and producing (what I hope is) catchy, synthpop music, but then I listen to some of the output from artists I like and I just think, back to the drawing board.
I feel like I need to get over the hang-up of my vocals and that I am recording in a bedroom, turned into a makeshift studio. I now know I need to belt the vocals out, so sorry to my family and neighbours in advance, cause this is the only way I could get close to the level I feel I need to take the next releases.
I recently released three solo singles - Awake, The Taming of the Rose and Everything… I really, really like those tracks, but they were only a taster of what was to come. That was the Requiem album, which went from 9 songs to 20 in the time it took me to finish those three tracks.
My problem, I try to do too much. I write constantly and therefore, never finish anything.
Requiem was then halved into two albums, Prelude and Requiem.
Prelude was to be the first of the two releases. It started at 9 tracks, it now has 13…. so, to stop this, I am going to just release singles for the foreseeable future and then compile them all together at some point.
I started a new idea on Sunday, which has taken me by surprise. The track is called We Laugh We Love and i think i am going to put this one out next, once the vocals are finalised.
It is like a cross between Ultravox, Visage, Duran Duran and many other of my favourite 80's artists rolled into one track.
On other fronts, the collaboration with Annie from Machina X, resulted in a synthpop fest in Late to the Party, which is available on the main platforms for streaming and on Machina X's Bandcamp for purchase.
Gary from Nature of Wires, was kind enough to fit us into his busy schedule and remixed the track, which is due for release on Friday 4th August 2023, so please consider checking that out as well.
I have some ideas of what I would like to do going forward in the scene, including something on YouTube, but that is still in the planning stage, but I will let you all know when I am ready to talk about this.
Till next time,
